Finding Your Perfect Support Community

It can be challenging to manage the twists and turns life tosses in our path. To make it easier, surround yourself with others who can support you. This is often family and friends although it doesn’t have to be exclusive to them.

Most folks have 3 main groups of people in their circle of influence: colleagues from work; family and friends; and those they know through hobbies and recreational activities. The 3rd group has the most potential for immediate expansion and the people you add to this group will be able to support you in specific areas. No single person can support you in every area of life so those you meet in self-selected interest groups will provide an excellent exchange of wins and struggles specific to that subject matter, helping you learn from one another. With our online networks, we now have a massive reach to others with similar interests and they only need to be accessible by the world wide web!

As long as you immerse yourself within a community that you want to learn more about, you won’t have to rely on others within your circle of influence that don’t have the expertise you are looking for. You may even find someone through social media who you’d like to work with further or, to mentor you.

I’m so grateful for the amazing folks I’ve met recently in the TLC October Blogging Event, organized by Eve Koivula. I’m learning so much about blogging, about other bloggers’ areas of expertise and, about social media! Where do you go to build your support community?

    Hi Cathy,

Support is important, and yes, I agree that it is that much more amazing when in community. I’m in two challenges right now, with a new one to start in November, and I can’t imagine how I would be able to do as much without those. I have laughed and learned with everyone in those groups.

  2. Cathy says:

Sounds like the perfect learning environment, Joyce!

  3. Eveliina says:

    Thank you Cathy!

I’ve had really amazing time with this virtual community over the past couple of weeks and I would say I wish it never ended! I know it will change, though, that’s for sure, but otherwise it should be just the beginning.

  4. Michelle says:

Surround yourself with positive people so they encourage you, not negative people who might bring you down.

  5. I couldn’t agree with you more, Cathy. Our support systems not only bring help and support, but important enrichment to our lives. Like Joyce, I did this blog challenge with 2 groups at the same time and met some really wonderful people. You are one of them. Your support has so much to me both practically and emotionally. You certainly walk your talk.
